Toddler Care
A warm, carefully prepared classroom where our youngest learners build independence, language, and confidence—one meaningful activity at a time.
Oakland, CA, Montessori Toddler Care
The Montessori Toddler Care Program at Oak Grove in Oakland is a classroom of no more than 11 children aged between 18 and 36 months of age. In this program, the goal is to introduce the Montessori philosophy, structure, and activities in a way that is developmentally appropriate for our youngest learners.
We have the privilege of introducing concepts to them in a way that is easily understandable and relatable to their growing minds.
What Makes Our Toddler Program Special
We break learning into simple, joyful steps—supporting language development, independence, and confidence through carefully chosen materials and guided practice.
Developmentally Appropriate
Montessori philosophy and structure introduced in a way that fits toddler minds, bodies, and attention spans.
Language Growth
Materials drawn from everyday life spark curiosity and open new opportunities for language development.
Little Hands, Big Skills
Activities designed for grasping, rotating, and gripping—building fine motor control and coordination.
Independence & Movement
Toddlers choose work, carry materials, and learn to transport items carefully to a table or rug.
Self-Correcting Materials
Many materials include built-in “control of error,” helping toddlers problem-solve without adult rescue.
Creative Exploration
Art engages the senses—teachers support younger toddlers while older toddlers work more independently.
Simple Steps, Clear Direction
Specifically, in our Oakland, CA, Montessori Toddler Care program, we break down concepts into simple steps using easy-to-understand language and clear direction.
The materials are appropriate for little hands that are learning to grasp, rotate, and grip new objects. Toddlers experience independence in choosing activities and carrying them to a work table or rug.
They learn to use their whole body to successfully transport materials to their chosen workspace without dropping them. Through this process, children experience both success and growing confidence as they begin to interact more intentionally with their environment.
Self-Correction Builds Confidence
One of the most valuable aspects of our Montessori toddler environment in Oakland, CA, is the design of the materials themselves. Many materials are self-correcting, allowing children to recognize errors in their work without adult intervention.
This supports the child’s ability to problem-solve independently and fosters a strong sense of autonomy.
Order, Care, and Respect
The toddler program establishes a foundation of order, care of self, care of community, and respect for materials—principles that continue into Preschool and TK/Kindergarten.
Social, Emotional, and Creative Growth
Toddlers learn to express themselves—through art, language, and positive interactions with others—within a calm, supportive classroom community.
Emotions & Community
Children begin to recognize their emotions (and others’) and learn to name and express feelings appropriately with teacher guidance.
Positive Interaction
Toddlers practice interacting kindly with peers—sharing space, taking turns, and building early social skills.
Art as Exploration
From gluing and collage to early writing tools, art engages the senses and supports creativity and independence.
