Toddler Montessori Program
Introducing the Montessori philosophy to our youngest learners in a developmentally appropriate, nurturing environment designed for exploration and growth.
A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
The Montessori Toddler Care Program at Oak Grove is a classroom of no more than 11 children aged between 18 and 36 months of age. In this program, the goal is to introduce the Montessori philosophy, structure, and activities in a way that is developmentally appropriate for our youngest learners.
We have the privilege of introducing concepts to them in a way that is easily understandable and relatable to their growing minds. Specifically, in our Oakland, CA, Montessori Toddler Care program, we break down concepts into simple steps using easy-to-understand language and clear direction.
We seek to excite each child's curiosity by providing materials drawn from their everyday environment, along with activities that open new opportunities for language development.
Hands-On Learning for Little Hands
The materials are appropriate for little hands that are learning to grasp, rotate, and grip new objects. Toddlers experience independence in choosing activities and carrying them to a work table or rug.
They learn to use their whole body to successfully transport materials to their chosen workspace without dropping them. Through this process, children experience both success and growing confidence as they begin to interact more intentionally with their environment.
Teacher to Child Ratio: 1 to 6
Our low ratio ensures personalized attention and responsive care for every child.
Self-Correcting Materials
One of the most valuable aspects of our Montessori toddler environment in Oakland, CA, is the design of the materials themselves. Many materials are self-correcting, allowing children to recognize errors in their work without adult intervention.
This supports the child's ability to problem-solve independently and fosters a strong sense of autonomy.
Art & Creative Expression
Art and creative exploration are vital components of the classroom. Toddlers engage all of their senses while working with a variety of art materials.
Younger toddlers may need more teacher assistance with tasks such as gluing, collage work, or using writing tools, while older toddlers are increasingly able to work independently and express themselves more creatively.
Social & Emotional Development
In addition to the Montessori toddler care foundation, children are learning how to interact positively with one another. They begin to recognize their own emotions and the emotions of their peers and, with teacher guidance, learn to name and express these feelings appropriately.
